A healthy
community is a happy community |
This
ethos has many facets such as; obesity in young people, which
resulted in the Governments Healthy Schools initiative. Other
aspects are social isolation, physical and mental health and
community cohesion. Through EcoFutures expertise a community
allotment could encourage young people to take an interest in
the food they are eating, where it comes from and participate
in healthy, creative activities outside. What we eat is also
paramount for good mental health, benefiting sleep, stress and
social interactions. |
Another
area that projects could have a positive impact on would be sick
absence and long term sickness. Research by the Office for National
Statistics estimated sick absence from work cost the economy
400 million a year, support and advice is easily accessible for
common mental health issues such as depression and anxiety. Simple
changes in our lifestyles can create permanent change in our
lives and for the lives of our children. |
